FIRE RESISTANT GARMENTS
Nomex® is a meta-aramid fiber inherently flame resistant at high temperatures, which does not melt, drip or support combustion in air.
A key factor in the protection of Nomex® is its ability to carbonize and thicken when exposed to intense heat. This feature increases the reaction barrier between the heat source and the user's skin and minimizes bum injuries; it is almost comparable to the way in which a model car protects occupants by airbags.
Nomex® gets its resistance to the flames due to its unique structure of aromatic rings and conjugated amide bonds. To derive this thermal behavior of its molecular structure, and not the application of a retardant chemical flames on the fabric, yam, fiber or polymer; Nomex® provides permanent protection that is not removed by washing or use.
